We, Nick and Tammy Blackford, are the owners, operators and trainers of North Coast K-9, which has been a reputable, well-established training institution in the North Coast of Ohio since 1989. Having started his dog training career in 1979, Nick has accumulated over 30 years experience in the field. Having commenced training in 1987, Tammy has attained over 20 years in the field of dog training as well.
While retaining the original storefront location in Sandusky, Ohio, we expanded the company in 1994 to a second eight-acre location in Monroeville, Ohio, where we also live and raise our three children. The Sandusky location comprises our training facility servicing the surrounding areas of Huron, Vermilion, Port Clinton, Catawba and Castalia. It also houses our groomer’s salon, i.e. Five Points Pet Salon. The Monroeville location comprises our main training arenas, both indoors and out, as well as our boarding and breeding kennels. This location services the surrounding areas of Bellevue, Milan, Willard, Greenwich and New London, as well as referrals from cities to the east, such as Lorain, Elyria, Cleveland, Willoughby and Independence, Ohio; and as far west as the state of Michigan.
In addition to our training services, we also travel to and import dogs from Europe for Police K-9, sport, breeding or home companionship and peace of mind.
This is what we do. We don’t just own the business. We live it. This is not a hobby for us. We have extensive experience in dog behavior and psychology. We don’t just train dogs to heel, sit, down, stay and come. We specialize in spot-on temperament assessments and effective behavior modification. We are committed to our clients, both human and canine, and strive to bring both to their highest potential. We teach owners how to be good leaders and we train their dogs to willingly and happily follow the directives of their owners.
Training dogs is not like making a batch of chocolate chip cookies. Our expertise lies in our unique ability to evaluate and assess each dog/handler team and then customize a training program to fit their situation and needs. This holds true whether we’re working with a companion dog or police K-9 team.
We’re here for you. Are you ready?
