In-kennel training is a service that we offer for individuals who want their dog trained, but who are not able to attend a group class.

In this program, your dog would stay at our facility during the course of his or her training.  At times during this training, we have you come to our facility to attend private training sessions—so you are learning, as well as your dog.  This gives you an opportunity to visit with your pal (whom we’re sure you’ve been missing!) and it gives us the opportunity to show you what he or she has learned, to instruct you, and to see where your dog might choose to test you.

Training consists of:  sit and down on command, sit stay and down stay under distractions (such as other dogs, or people approaching, petting and talking to him), heeling (so your dog doesn’t pull you), and recall (so he comes when you call him, not just when he feels like it!).  We also work to correct problems such as bolting out doors, jumping up on people, biting, mouthing, chewing, barking and any other problems that you might be having, including shyness or aggression.

The normal length of time is 4 weeks.  The first 2 weeks of training are devoted to teaching your dog exactly how we want him to respond to each of the commands that he will be learning.  The second 2 weeks are spent  “proofing” your dog.  We do this by adding more distractions and working with him or her in our home as well as public environments.    Each week, we give you our honest, professional opinion concerning your dog's progress.

When your dog returns to his home environment, it is important that you understand your job, which is proper leadership and handling.  After your final private lesson, you will return home with not just your dog, but an Owner's Manual listing information concerning dog behavior, each of the commands and specific information concerning your dog.  Whew!  What a relief.  You won't have to remember every single detail we give you at your final lesson.  It will be in written form as well.

Since dogs are pack animals, your dog's performance will reflect your leadership.  No worries!  Our program is designed to instruct and enlighten you as well as your dog.  We are here for you every step of the way.  All you need is an open mind and the ability to take direction.  If you learn to be a good leader, your dog will be happy to look to you as his leader (rather than himself).  He will be more devoted to you and will love you more.  It's true.  Accordingly, if your dog completes four weeks of In-Kennel Training, in addition to the private lessons you will receive during this program, you can also avail yourself of eight (8) follow-up lessons in our weekly group Basic Obedience class--free of charge--to maximize your leadership skills.

If you are interested in our In-Kennel Training program, but not sure if it is within your budget for your dog  to attend for the entire 4 weeks, please feel free to contact us to discuss what options might be available.

Dogs learn through repetition and conditioning, and positive and negative reinforcement.  As with all of our programs, we utilize a fine balance of praise and correction (90% praise/10% correction).  We reward good behavior through play, food reward, and verbal and physical praise.  We correct bad behavior (jumping, biting, etc.) through proper corrections.  The end result is a well-mannered dog who is happy and willing to look to you as his leader.

This program is more expensive than our group classes, but it is highly effective because your dog is being trained by a professional.  In addition, you the owner, are receiving private, personalized instruction on how to properly handle your dog and be a good leader.  The charge for this training is $300 per week.  This price includes training, boarding and handler instruction.
